Why does this exist?

We already know the answers. Philosophers wrote them down centuries ago. And somehow it doesn't help.

This project exists because hearing a real person — a stranger, your age, from the other side of the world — say what gives their life meaning lands differently than reading it in a book.

It started as a personal question. Someone in their 40s, good career, loving family, international life — and still quietly carrying this question around. Not in crisis. Just curious. And wondering if others feel the same way.

Turns out: everyone does.

What we're building

A growing collection of real, anonymous answers to the oldest human question. Over time, we want to find patterns — do people's answers change with age? Do people who've found meaning describe it differently than those still searching? Does where you're from shape what you believe?

Not academic research. Just human voices, at scale.

Common questions

Is it really anonymous?

Yes. No account, no email, no tracking. The optional demographic fields (age, country, etc.) are never connected to anything that could identify you. We don't store your IP address — only a scrambled hash used to prevent spam, which can't be reversed back to you.

What happens to my answer?

It gets added to the collection, shown to other visitors, and included in the aggregate research data. It may appear on the homepage or top answers page. It's never sold or shared with third parties.

Do I need to create an account?

No. That's intentional. An account would change what people write. Anonymity makes honesty easier.

Can I submit more than once?

You can submit once per hour. If your answer changes over the years — submit again. A 25-year-old's answer and a 40-year-old's answer to the same question from the same person would be fascinating data. We'd love to have both.

Who built this?

One person, as a side project. Not a company, not a research institution. Just someone who couldn't stop thinking about the question.

Can I delete my answer?

Since answers are anonymous there's no account to log back into, and we don't store any personal information — so there's nothing to delete that could be traced to you. If you want a specific answer removed, contact us below and describe it — we'll find and delete it.
